Design Trends for the Near Future

Trends tend to be cyclical, Im sure you already know this.  They also tend to overlap and only speak to some people.  Trends will affect every person differently depending on what generation they belong to, what generation their parents or grandparents belong to, and how their relationship to those people or that era has affected them. It’s all a very personal thing, even when it doesn’t feel personal.

The last while we’ve been seeing a resurgence of things being described as boho, mid century modern, 90’s, 70’s.  Design elements that have portrayed this are things like pampas grass, warm taupe, rust, and yellow tones, baskets and lots of texture.  Arched backgrounds, geometric shapes. Large sun hats, larger flares on pants, all of this is still very prevalent in trends today, and like I said they will overlap.  Those who really love these trends will hold onto them for longer, they will stay inspired by all these things.  That’s honestly what I love about trends, it reminds us of the things we love or a new aspect of an era we love, even if we don’t know that’s what we are doing.  Each era, line, colour, texture, object will inspire each person differently.

Im so excited about new trends that I see coming up!  The early 2000’s are back, Y2K is becoming a thing again, and the 2000’s were largely influenced by the late 50’s early 60’s.

I see bright pastels coming back strong, somehow in the wedding industry we just can’t completely get away from pink.  Floral patterns, and smooth clean lines.  Textures such as cord and velvet (its not leaving yet!).  I also see the sparkle trend continuing like fringe, mirrors, and pearl all being big when it comes to accents.

For weddings I see a resurgence of a modern glam.  Cleaner lined flowers such orchids are getting bigger, and lighting will play a larger part again, but of course with new products and things like led lights will make this so much more accessible for the diy brides.  Satin I think will be for more than just bridesmaids dresses, full table linens will make large impacts for a glam look.

I could name all the the things I see, honestly when it comes to design there are so many things that will be influential, and the beauty of it is that we will see it all be interwoven into all the things we already know and will seamlessly make its way into our lives and our visual stimulation.
